LE CARRÉ RIVE GAUCHE, ART AS A LIVING TERRITORY

From June 3 to 6, 2026, the 48th edition of L’Objet Extraordinaire transforms this historical fragment of the capital into an open-air journey where art leaves the exhibition spaces to invade the streets. Among the rue du Bac, the rue de Beaune, the rue des Saints-Pères, the rue de Lille, the rue de Verneuil and the quai Voltaire, the visitor is invited to wander at the rhythm of discoveries, encounters and stories.

Every spring, some neighborhoods in Paris seem to regain their original purpose. On the left bank, between the scholarly facades of the galleries, the cobbled courtyards and the showcases inhabited by the centuries, the Carré Rive Gauche revives a unique tradition: the dialogue between the works, the eras and those who look at them.

From June 3 to 6, 2026, the 48th edition of The Extraordinary Object transforms this historical fragment of the capital into an open-air journey where art leaves the exhibition spaces to take to the streets. Between Rue du Bac, Rue de Beaune, Rue des Saints-Pères, Rue de Lille, Rue de Verneuil and even the Voltaire dock, the visitor is invited to wander at the rhythm of discoveries, encounters and stories.

For nearly half a century, this event has held a special place in Parisian cultural calendar. More than just a gathering for collectors, it is an immersion into the world of those who preserve, study, and transmit works. Behind every door lies a story: the story of an object that has survived through the centuries, a know-how preserved, a patient research carried out by specialists whose eyes illuminate the past as much as they nourish the present.

This 2026 edition marks a new stage in the history of the Carré. A renewed visual identity, a redesigned website, and an increased openness towards all the actors in the artistic world all reflect the desire to integrate this heritage neighborhood into contemporary uses and sensibilities. Without renouncing its heritage, the Carré thus affirms a more open vision capable of bringing together enlightened amateurs, interior designers, young collectors, and simply passers-by drawn by curiosity.

Along the route, more than seven millennia of creation dialogue within a single geography. A medieval sculpture can be juxtaposed with a contemporary work; a Louis XV piece of furniture can be paired with Japanese ceramics; an archaeological object can resonate with a design creation. This coexistence of forms and periods constitutes one of the unique features of the Carré Rive Gauche. Here, the works are not presented according to a strict chronology but according to the affinities they reveal among themselves.

Through its galleries, its experts, its restaurateurs and its artisans, the neighborhood also recalls the essential role played by the crafts in the preservation of heritage. Each object on display bears the trace of handed down gestures, preserved techniques and a knowledge that continues to be written in the present.

For the second consecutive year, Carré also continues its dialogue with the Asian Spring in Paris. This collaboration draws connections between different cultural traditions and enriches the perspective on the arts of Asia, whose presence now naturally forms part of the artistic landscape of the neighborhood.

More than just a demonstration, The Extraordinary Object Thus, it appears as a reflection of a territory where art remains an experience lived. A place where the works not only are shown, but where they participate in a continuous conversation between memory and creation, erudition and transmission. For four days, the Carré Rive Gauche reminds us that some Parisian streets are also open-air galleries, and that the history of art can still be discovered on a stroll.
