At the beginning of the year, The School of Jewelry Arts, The first introductory school for the general public is offering new courses for our greatest pleasure.
Born thanks to the support of the Van Cleef & Arpels House, The School of Jewelry Arts It already offers about twenty courses on three major topics: the world of stones, craftsmanship, and the history of jewelry art.
This year, to that, we add The Ruby, a fiery and captivating stone, Sculpture Art and A World Tour of Jewelry.
On this occasion, Fine Jewellery Spirit discovered a jewelery art, that of the lapidaires.

You will discover the history of the lapidary and the main techniques used by a lapidary. This course is led by a lapidary and a gemologist.
You will discover the history, geography, vocabulary and tools used to cut colored stones. You will also understand how the lapidary examines a raw stone to decide on the best way to cut it, in order to extract the most beautiful color while retaining the most important weight.

Finally, you will proceed with the first steps of the carving: you will use the chisel for this and you will practice the gestures of the sculptor.
At the end of the course, you will leave with your pre-shaped or «brutted» stone.
