JEAN DESPRÉS, THE MODERN SPIRIT OF JEWELRY

A singular figure of the Art Deco jewelry, Jean Després (1889-1980) developed a language inspired by geometry, mechanics and the industrial world in the 1920s. However, silver, precious stones and unusual materials are combined in jewelry with powerful volumes, marked by the shapes of gears and mechanical parts. An artist as well as a creator, he incorporates the jewel into the modernity of his time and maintains close ties with the world of art. Jean Després remains today a major signature of the French jewelry creation of the 20th century.
