Feng J: the new Chinese star of high jewelry
Born in 1985 in Hangzhou, China, into a family where art held a central place, some of her ancestors were painters at the imperial court. Feng J is one of the most unique creators on the international jewelry scene. A graduate of the China Academy of Art with architect Wang Shu, she continued her training at the University of the Arts in London and then at the Haute École de Joaillerie de Paris, before obtaining her degree as a gemologist from the GIA.
In 2016, she founded her eponymous house, FENG J Haute Joaillerie, with a workshop in Paris and a studio in Shanghai. Her creative approach, which she defines as a way of «painting with precious stones», has earned her the title of «21st-century jeweler» by the New York Times. She has invented, among other things, the «double rose cut» technique and the «Floating Set,» a setting process that makes the metal almost invisible, giving the illusion that the stones float.
His creations, included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, also set records at auctions held by Sotheby's and Phillips, confirming Feng J's place among the great names of contemporary jewelry.
