MARC AUCLERT VISIONARY, THE PAST IN THE PRESENT!

Maison Auclert 16

Meeting with Marc Auclert

Several times my gaze stopped in front of its showcases…
Marc Auclert jewelryr has a prestigious address on Castiglione Street.
There are different kinds of jewelry here! From ancient to so modern!

What is your favorite stone?

For a long time, it was the Diamond and the Ruby. But I surpassed them; the taste takes hold over time.. Now it’s the Agate or the Antique Blue Calcedonia, with their ancient patina, for example that of the 1st millennium BC. .

The jewel that makes you dream?

Bijou Belperron, I saw the calcedony bracelets of the Duchess of Windsor again; they are simply magnificent.

A piece of jewelry that best represents you?

The Ring. It’s almost the object that is found in all cultures. In Japan, women traditionally wear very little jewelry, except for rings. Rings have something that is millennia old; they are universal!

A jeweler you like?

This is not a jeweler, but rather a period. The Antique Etruscan Jewelry. The 1930s jewelry in France, those from the 1970s in the United States. Although, Jeanne Toussaint was the director of jewelry at Cartier in 1933.

What do you like about your job?

The aesthetics. That’s the best part of what I do. From the beginning to The end, from buying an antique piece, to the idea of the jewelry, the design, the execution… The workshop follows my drawing and transcends it. What I prefer is the delivery of the jewelry, after all these steps.

I have worked at Place Vendôme as well, so I know the best ateliers very well and they accept to take my orders; it’s also a pleasure to be with very skilled people.

What made you decide to choose it?

This concept of Antique Jewelry… I come from a family of antique dealers and I always have family at the flea market. 25 years ago a friend received a pre-Columbian frog and I already had the idea at that time to mount it on a ring. It was a real pleasure to do it, to value the old!

A time you would have loved to live in?

Louis XV! The whole of the arts in the 18th century is phenomenal, the furniture, the paintings... except for the jewels!

An exhibition that left a mark on you?

The new rooms of Louvre Museum of the decorative arts of the 18th century. Notably the furniture of Marie-Antoinette; we really have an understanding of what «upper» creation was like at that time.
