In the Middle Ages, rock crystal was a precious material used in the arts of the table, the creation of luxury objects, and even works of a religious nature, symbolizing purity. First, visitors begin with an introduction to the geology of rock crystal through the models of Romé de l’Isle.
Next, the exhibition follows a chronological and thematic trajectory revealing the use of rock crystal throughout the centuries. From reliquaries to royal objects, from luxury items to scientific tools, more than 200 pieces are presented. It is worth noting that nearly one hundred date back to the Middle Ages. Then, the exhibition concludes with a contemporary installation by the artist Patrick Neu, created especially for the occasion.
