CÉSARÉE

The jewels of Césarée They make us travel.

Laurence Coupelon is the creator of the jewelry Césarée. As a traveler, her jewelry allows us to share her discoveries and encounters. Esprit Joaillerie was able to appreciate her ethnic creations, jewelry that sometimes speaks of vanished peoples and legends.

What is your favorite stone?

Emerald, smoky quartz, but I also really like the horn. These are beautiful materials that speak to me.

The jewels of the Maharadjas.

A place that inspires you?

Egypt, China and the Himalayas.
The temple of Abu Simbel in Egypt, the Great Wall of China, are all very impressive monuments.

CÉSARÉE

A book you haven’t forgotten?

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is an incredible epic.

QWhat does the jewel represent for you?

A piece of jewelry is an architecture. I like to treat the volumes in detail, even though my jewelry is impressive.

Collier
Plumes, Crocodile, Agates.

The jewel should be seen as, for example, the massai jewels that are imposing.

What does the ethnic jewel represent?

Another culture, a culture that is authentic.

Turquoise Necklace, Garnet, Reliquary of Tibet, Silver.

Jewelry is important in the history of civilizations; it has always accompanied us. In India, women wear many pieces of jewelry, yet they do not always have the means to do so.

CÉSARÉE

What is the source of your inspiration?

The inspiration for my new collections always comes from encounters and the discovery of new materials. A beautiful jade for an Asian inspiration or the horn for an African collection. I don’t have a precise idea; the inspiration comes with the material.

What would you like to accomplish?

Large headdresses for the cinema, perhaps the theater.
I really liked the hairstyles in Star Wars, especially Padme’s.

I would like the world to think without regard to brands.
Expertise is very important; it gives a soul to the works. For example, the «batiks» (technique of printing on fabrics) are made by Chinese ethnic groups; it is a unique skill that must be preserved. It is one of humanity’s memories.

CÉSARÉE

Thank you Laurence, your jewelry takes us on a journey through the cultures of the countries.
