KATHELEYS

What does vintage mean to you?

Rarity, quality and originality. The word vintage is overused; there is often a confusion with remakes and second-hand items. What Katheley’s offers are different, unique and collector’s items.

There is a unique dimension to heritage: it’s difficult-to-find objects that gain value over the years.

What is your favorite era?

My tastes are eclectic; I don’t have a favorite era. It’s all a matter of a personal preference. I love creating and highlighting pieces with unique designs. That’s what I offer to my clients: a personalized service, with authentic and historically significant pieces.

Who is your favorite creator?

Robert Goossens, a true master of metalworking.

What does «Hermès Vintage» represent?

It’s extraordinary. Everything at Hermès is fabulous. There’s the look, of course, the shape of a bag, its color, but what’s exceptional is the sensuality of the leather to the touch. Hermès has exceptional leather and craftsmanship; it’s like jewelry.

Your favorite vintage Hermès bag?

Even though I love them all... The blue alligator «Bolide» fascinates me, the color, the size, the quality of the leather, everything is divine.

A piece you like?

I love the humorous and surreal elements in the creation. I like to combine chic with the shocking.
One of the pieces I particularly like is this sculpture by Robert Goossens that depicts a rock crystal dolphin. The same dolphin was used for the faucets of Coco Chanel. I was lucky enough to meet Robert Goossens in 2009 during the launch of my business. I met him regularly at the Les Paruriers workshop in Rue de Charenton. I was very attached to and admired this great artist. I always said that I would like to acquire one of these creations, which is what I did with this sculpture in 2012.

A music you listen to?

It’s very varied from David Bowie to Aretha Franklin.

What would you like to accomplish?

Further highlighting savoir-faire, history and creativity; As I did at the end of 2015 by organizing the first Hermès vintage fair in Paris.

Hermès Vintage Collector Fair 2015.

To organize a gathering around know-how in the near future is one of my wishes for this 2017.

Thank you Catherine, we are eagerly awaiting this moment.
