Daniel Brush, the goldsmith who transcended jewelry
Born in 1947 in Cleveland and passed away in 2022, Daniel Brush is an autodidact American artist, sculptor, painter and goldsmith, considered a unique figure at the border between contemporary art and jewelry. Working with pure gold, steel, aluminum and titanium without ever resorting to preliminary drawing, he shaped each piece directly in the material in his New York studio.
His work, exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the School of Jewellery Arts in Paris (with the support of Van Cleef & Arpels), deliberately blurs the boundaries between jewelry and sculpture. Each creation, the result of hundreds of hours of manual labor, bears witness to a rare technical skill and erudition nurtured by his passion for philosophy and the history of precious stones.
Today recognized as one of the greatest jewelry artists of the 20th century, Daniel Brush continues to inspire collectors and institutions around the world.
