Meeting with Christine Escher and Claire Escher
The jewelry designer Christine Escher draws inspiration from the marine world, its fauna and flora.
It must be said that in 1998 she won the trophy from the famous diamond merchant De Beers with a ring made of ebony and diamonds. Today, her daughter Claire has joined her; mother and daughter work as a duo.

What is your favorite stone?
Christine: Opal is an extraordinary stone, even more so with sunlight. I also like sapphires of different colors.

Claire: Star-shaped sapphire and sparkling stones.

If you had to choose an antique jewel?
Ch: A René Boivin jewel, with colored sapphires.
C: A 1940 piece of jewelry, very voluminous, unique and spectacular.
What gave you the passion for jewelry?
Ch: As a little girl, I lived in the countryside; life was calm there. There was one place that was different—the jewelry showcases. They made me dream. You have to imagine them sparkling, filled with jewels; it was simply magical for a 12-year-old girl. My mother and my grandmother loved jewelry; I saw them wearing these wonders.

C : My grandmother is a very elegant woman; she always wears a beautiful piece of jewelry, and of course my mother’s eyes are drawn to jewelry. At any age, jewelry reveals a woman’s femininity.
A place that inspires you?
Ch : The sea, Italy more specifically Portofino!
C: Portofino is a magnificent place in the Cinque Terre, very colorful, a little gem with the sea and gardens; the beauty of Portofino inspires us.
