Meeting with Antoine Chapoutot
What is your favorite stone?
It’s hard to answer. I prefer colored stones. Of course, diamonds are beautiful, but once you understand how to make them shine, with their size and polish, they lose… a bit of their mystery. On the other hand, colored stones are all unique. So I’m torn between sapphire and tourmaline.

Or, Sapphire, Tourmalines, Peridot, Garnet, Diamonds
The jewel you love?
A very beautiful ring. The symbolism of the jewel on the hand is strong.
We take advantage of its beauty by looking at its hand, and the others also see it. And if, at first, there’s a slight confidence in putting it on, that’s even better; it can be… a little sculpture!

What gave you the passion for jewelry?
The stones, creation and women!

Or, Pink Sapphires, Diamonds
A place that inspires you?
A terrace overlooking the sea.

White gold, sapphires, diamonds
A book you haven’t forgotten?
«Belle du Seigneur» by Albert Cohen; I created a Solal ring in memory of this book.

How did you become a jewelry designer?
A turning point. I was offered the opportunity to work for a diamond merchant. I knew that I could combine my love of stones with my creativity. It was the beginning; I don’t believe in coincidence; opportunities come and go, and you have to know how to seize them.

Among your creations, which is the most unexpected request?
A very beautiful page marker.
It was a birthday present order. I had to find the idea and realize it by drawing inspiration from elements that the person loved: books, a 300-year-old house, a very beautiful library with an amazing and magnificent ancient fresco.

This fresco was as old as the house in the middle of those books… But what a gem to create with such a fresco…? A ring, a brooch… It’s someone who loves books, so this will be a bookmark that reproduces that drawing!
And when she opened the box, the emotion was palpable.

The most significant creation?
A choker necklace took me a year to make. It has 12 carats of diamonds, all of them EVVS quality!
It was a special order.

What remains to be created?
Complete the material creation with the immaterial creation. That is, the creation of words.
Thought is a creation that evolves.
