On June 8th, the 14th Gemological Rendez-vous in Paris will take place, an immersion in the world of two red stones: ruby and spinel.
Two stone sisters?
For a long time, these two red stones were confused, sharing the same deposits and the same passions.
Their traces can be found in history on numerous occasions. In the Middle Ages, these red stones were often called «escarboucle». Ancient legends also tell that the vouivre, a fantastic animal half-woman half-serpent, wore a red eye on its forehead, a magical stone with extraordinary powers.
The spinel deceives its world. The famous «Black Prince Ruby» of 170 carats that adorns the crown of Elizabeth of England is actually an extraordinary red spinel.
The Gemological Rendez-Vous in Paris therefore offers us a day to learn more about these two stones: their deposits, their markets, the determination of their geographical origins, as well as their treatments will be discussed.
So come back on June 8 to talk about rubies and spinels.
